Abstract

Abstract: Esports games among students are not just a hobby in their spare time but also a place to compete and increase the consistency of interest and perseverance in effort known as grit, to achieve long-term goals. Grit can be a predictor of academic motivation related to interest in the needs or desires that are owned when carrying out various academic activities. This study aims to analyze the correlation between grit and academic motivation in student eSport game players in Aceh. A total of 171 eSport game player students selected by purposive sampling technique were involved as research samples and actively participated in filling out research instruments; the Grit-O scale and the Indonesian short version of the Academic Motivation Scale (AMS). The results of the data analysis showed that grit correlates with intrinsic motivation and amotivation, but grit does not correlated with extrinsic motivation. The majority of eSports gamer students in Aceh have moderate to high grit and are extrinsically motivated, with GPA scores in the very satisfactory category.
